Cape Lambert Upgrade Project, Australia

Cape Lambert, a major iron ore wharf located in WA's Pilbara region, is protected from vessel impact by a series of berthing dolphins. To improve the dolphin capacity to withstand higher forces, we adopted a rigid/flexible design rather than the conventional rigid structure form - this revolutionary approach enabling the berthing dolphins to respond progressively to higher loadings, and repair any overload damage in more accessible locations.

The design, believed to be an international first, was conceived around efficient modular construction to minimise the impact on overall construction program and the continuing operation of the facility.
