Qualco Sunlands Groundwater Pumping Scheme, Australia
The Qualco Sunlands irrigation district, located in the Riverland of South Australia, comprises 2700 ha of irrigated orchards, vineyards and crops.
In association with Woodward Clyde we were responsible for the total engineering of a major groundwater pumping scheme for the area, which will collect around 2400 mega litres per year from the groundwater zone and discharge it to a disposal basin via approximately 30 km of pipeline and pumping infrastructure.
The scheme is critical to ensuring sustainable development of the region's irrigated horticultural industry while providing significant environmental benefits; namely reduction of salt loads to the Murray River and stabilisation of river cliff faces.
